Sailing - Resume
Mike Chambreau
I am looking to crew to/from Cabo/Cortez/Mexico on another boat
- Flexible - Willing to do all or part of downwind/return legs.
Open schedule through February 2008.
- Experienced - Sailed to Cabo twice many years ago on
Kialoa II (74 foot). Sailed to Cabo in 2006 on Kialoa III (80 foot).
Also sailed to Cabo five times in the Latitude 38 "BaJa Haha"
(2000, 2002, 2003, 2005, 2006). Did one return (Cabo to SFO) and another
northward cruise (San Diego to SFO).
Stood midnight-to-4AM watch handsteering
from Greece to Italy. Know how to use radar, once
I learn the hardware. Have sailed from Finland, through the North
Sea to England on a Swan 57.
Sailed the fjords of Norway (navigating) and westward across
the Atlantic in 2002 on a Swan 112.
Have owned a CAL-34 here in the
Bay area for 36 years, mainly cruising here and in the delta,
but a little YRA and Friday night racing. Am familiar with
spinnaker setup handling and steering, though not in rough
downwind situations. Have done a lot of anchoring in Greece,
Turkey and the delta; know how to moor at Angel Island.
- A good boat companion - Been on several boats with different
types of folks. I'm low-key and relaxed. Overall approach is
to have fun, learn new things, and see the sights.
- Organized - Glad to help keep track of boat stuff: Water,
fuel, electricity, log, etc., though I want to share these
responsibilities with others.
- Can pay my own way - And also contribute to the overall
expenses IF the ground rules are clear up front
(after-the-trip "by the way" requests for money will be ignored).
I am looking for crew for daysailing in the Bay Area on my boat
I'm retired, married and like to sail very much and am always
looking for others to join our interesting mix of mostly
20-50+ year-old people (married, singles, etc.) for sailing in the bay,
on our CAL-34 34-foot sailboat.
These are smart but relaxed people, and our
emphasis is on learning more sailing (with no shouting),
having good times (and eating well), practicing and learning, and seeing the
outdoor scenery in the bay.
About me
Retired, 67 years old (but still a kid
mentally). I'm a Cancer and the least educated in my
family, with only an MBA from some school near Palo Alto.
In reasonably good shape. Humorous and relaxed.
Can do GPS navigation (not celestial); have navigated in Norway,
Greece, Turkey, transatlantic. I can fix things on the boat, especially
electrical and computer.
No particular menu hangups or restrictions (though I dislike broccoli).
Not a cook at all, but will help washing the dishes. Simple requirements:
Good companions, a good bunk with a reading light, beer.
