Sailing 2001 - Impetuous

Revised: June 19, 2001

Summary

Many of you have expressed an interest in doing non-racing sailing on my boat "Impetuous". We will definitely be doing non-racing sailing, with one- and multiple-day sailings.

Objectives

Our objectives are

.....(and as in France, discussion of politics, religion and work is mostly avoided.)

There is a lot of flexibility on multiple-day events, and you can sign up for part of it. Depending on responses, we might have room for friends and significant others.

I will be adding additional dates in AUG and SEP.

Rules

Here are various "rules"...

Changes from last year

I'm changing a few items from previous year's sailings, so I can focus more on boat-related items:

Let me know if you have questions/comments about these changes.

Angel Island/Tiburon - SAT 7 JUL / SUN8 JUL

Cruise to San Francisco YC (Tiburon) & Angel Island

A lot of neat things on this weekend trip, and you can select what you wish from this "menu". Highlights are Sunday brunch at San Franscisco YC and going to Angel Island. Here are the parts...sign up for one or all:

    1. SAT 9:30A Meet at Marina
10:30A Leave Marina - go to Angel Island
    2. 4:00P Leave Angel Island - motor to San Francisco YC
                            in Tiburon. Arrive 5:00P
    3. 5:30P Drinks at SFYC bar and/or on the boat
    4. 7:00P Dinner in Tiburon
Rather than eating at the yacht club ($35/person),
we will do the very short walk to "Guaymas" or
                          to "Sam's" for dinner.
Movie in Tiburon if you wish.
    5. SUN 10:00A Brunch at San Francisco YC
    6. 12:00N Motor to Angel Island
    7. 2:30P Leave Angel Island - sail downwind back to marina
                 5:00P Arrive marina
There are ferry boats from Tiburon and SF to/from Angel Island. Bring your bike on the ferry boat. Can also bring your bike on Impetuous (tied to the shrouds) either way (though will probably get some salt spray). Rent a bike at Angel Island ($10/hour). Camp Saturday night at Angel Island (you make the reservations....it may be full). Hike around Angel Island...great hike. Drive your car and meet us at Tiburon for Sunday brunch. Bring a sleeping bag and stay overnight on Impetuous Saturday night. Etc. etc. Lots of options and lots of fun. Room for significant others as well.

Delta - SAT 4 AUG - SAT 11 AUG

The trip TO the delta is a marvelous all-day trip, followed by many days of anchoring, exploring, reading, etc. We will be joining the Encinal YC up there, which will make the week even more fun. I plan to go up on SAT 4 AUG, a day earlier than the rest of the club. (That makes it easier for us to arrange transportation, back-to-work-on-Monday schedules, etc.)

Once there, it is a week of (quite) warm weather and doing very little... reading, swimming, and socializing with the yacht club people or your friends who drive up there to meet you. Renting a water-ski boat is also a possibility.

SAT 4 AUG From the Marina to the delta, about 55 miles,
an outstanding experience...downwind almost all the way.
Late afternoon arrival at Herman & Helen's Marina
SUN 5 AUG Various arrivals/departures by car. Move boat
                  to be with EYC group.
WED 8 AUG Dinner party on Riverboat II (see below)
SAT 11 AUG Return - probably all the way, with an evening arrival
(our new autopilot will be a big help coming in this
                  direction).

email from EYC regarding the delta...

Mike: Glad to hear you will be joining us for Delta Daze. Bring lots of sunscreen, appetizers and Beer!! This year we are going back to Three River Reach just off the San Joaquin River, near Mandeville, not far from Herman & Helens. You can anchor out or tie to a tree. The only organized plan at the moment is dinner Wednesday night at the River Boat II where all of us will board a Party boat and head to the restaurant. There will be dinner and dancing under the Delta stars. The rest of the time will be impromtu appetizer parties here and there. Perhaps a midday "Margarita Happening" and lots of time for napping - if that's your choice - or reading. Hope you have a dinghy to get around in.

See you there...Rod and Peggy on Flying Bear.
