Date Travel Notes
MAY/JUN Celerity cruises from Mallorca to Corfu, Greece
-----
FRI 7 JUL SFO -> Milan -> Athens Mike C travels to meet yacht
SAT 8 JUL Athens -> Corfu Left backpack in taxi, but got it back 20 minutes later. Lunch at Corfu Palace Hotel. Take hydrofoil from Corfu to Gais (Paxi) to meet yacht.
SUN 9 JUL To Parga (mainland) Touristy town, but fun. Had drinks at bar. Best line: "Does it taste better with a woman?"
MON 10 JUL To Sivota - 70 miles A fine downwind sail...good strong winds. Unusual light blue water as we rounded the point.
TUE 11 JUL Stay Sivota
WED 12 JUL To Nidri
THU 13 JUL To Meganisi - 8 miles
FRI 14 JUL To Fiskardo (Kefalonia) - 18 miles VERY nice town. We really liked it. Met Olivers (again)
SAT 15 JUL To Efemia - 14 miles Mike McG did the helm...pretty exciting! Birthday dinner (long walk to taverna) Kefalonia meat pie (very good)...wine is terrible, however
SUN 16 JUL To Vathy (Ithaka) - 20 miles First motored to Melanissi cave, where we met the Olivers (again !).
MON 17 JUL To Akra Oxia (Mainland) - 23 miles Got 28+ knots of wind. Fun being at the helm for downwind sailing with just the main. Anchorage pretty windy, but "glutinous" mud held us well
TUE 18 JUL To Trezonia (Island) - 51 miles Fine long downwind sail. Increasing winds, meaning that we doused the main in 28K on wind! Went to "Yacht Club" for drinks after dinner.. great view much not much else. Watched many other yachts docking and anchoring in the high winds. Walked around the small town.. very pleasant because there are no cars or mopeds.
WED 19 JUL To Eratini - 10 miles Had a nice lunch at the hotel in Trezonia. Good afternoon downwind sail (jib only) to Eratini, where we were the only yacht and the only foreigners. We were smart enough to anchor BEFORE the wind came up. Gaymond cooked great Greek dinner.
THU 20 JUL To Galaxidi - 12 miles Marylyn VERY late. Finally contracted her at hotel. Took rental car to hotel and had dinner there. She had quite an experience, marred by losing her purse/passport.
FRI 21 JUL Stay Galaxidi Took rental car to Delfi. Good timing, as it rained VERY heavily. Returned to find our boat moved slightly, as the power boat next to us was getting bashed by a catamaran who had slipped anchor in a sudden 35K squall from the south. Talk of the town. Out to dinner at a reasonable time...8PM!!!
SAT 22 JUL To Ormos Isidhorou - 17 miles Motored and anchored in bay. A quiet day... naps, etc.
SUN 23 JUL To Corinth - 27 miles Really wanted to sail, but no wind (until the usual 3:30 PM blow). Stayed tied alongside the commercial dock.
MON 24 JUL Stay Corinth Rented car: Saw Old Corinth, Archocorinth (high on a hill), then Mikenes. Dinner (very good) at fast food place. Anchored out.
TUE 25 JUL To Aigina Corinth canal. Pretty impressive. Then a nice sail to Aigina
WED 26 JUL Stay Aigina Early rise to take ferry to Athens, to get Marylyn's passport renewed at US embnassy. Got it done, then walked to nearby Hilton hotel for lunch, where we ran into the rest of the crew and joined them for lunch. Then to the museum...fabulous!
THU 27 JUL Stay Aigina A quieter day...took taxi to temple of Aphaea. Got glasses fixed. Then to Celerity to run freezer. Afternoon at hotel...quiet time, but air coonditioner at hotel leaks again. Marylyn dries hair/panties with 220V...fast! impressive! Good dinner (rabbit, stew) at a place on a side street.
FRI 28 JUL Stay Aigina No taxi from hotel, so we carried our luggage halfway to town before getting a taxi. Finally rejoined boat.
SAT 29 JUL Stay Aigina Started to Athens because generator would not work; wind died, so we turned on the main motor, and it did not work either! Sailed back to Aigina and anchored in 20 knots under sail, good job! Very good dinner with lots of fish.
SUN 30 JUL To Kea/Vourkari Motoring, as winds were again light and from the wrong direction. Met up with two other boats from SFO.
MON 31 JUL Stay Kea/Vourkari Good lunch at quay. Gaymond and Mike McG saved two young ladies as their dinghy sank. Had them and their parents over for drinks.
TUE 1 AUG To Kea/Khalidhoniki - 44 miles Windy previous night...30K of wind at 6AM. Put on staysail and double-reefed main and sailed around the north end of the island.
WED 2 AUG Sail to Siros/Galissas - 24 miles Good dinner at "Socrates"
THU 3 AUG Stay Siros/Galissas Stayed due to heavy winds (force 7 gusts). Went ashore for gyro sandwiches. We were able to bring back a dozen eggs in force 7!
FRI 4 AUG To Ormos Varis - 8 miles A short (1.5 hour) motor sail to Varis, with gusts to Force 7. Got there by 10AM, and then had breakfast (a switch from our usual schedule). Anchored in a small bay 1/2 mile to the west. N 37 23.1 E 24 56.0

THU 17 AUG This hotel is SO quiet, only horses and a few crickets, though the "air conditioning" is nothing much more than a unit that hums. FRI 18 AUG Mike stay a Kos Town (Kos)....2 nights...found downtown hotel.

SUN 20 AUG Stay Bodrum Josh could not arrive on the 19th, so we stayed an extra day.
MON 21 AUG Sail to Kalaboshi - 37 miles. Stopped at Knidos for lunch. Went to Parmak Buku, but too much roll, so we back tracked to Kalaboshi. Fishing line entangled in prop at Parmak Buku; unable to raise anchor due to wiring problems (able to fix after several hours)
TUE 22 AUG To Keci Buku Lunch stop at Datca. Keci Buku is the place with the red sand bar. We liked this place the best. And nothing broke.
WED 23 AUG Sail to Bozuk Boku - 27 miles Lunch stop at Bozburum, with shallow water and very picturesque. Onward to a ice anchorage in Bozuk Boku, but offensive local lady at "Ali Baba" restaurant kept driving people away.
THU 24 AUG Sail to Ekincik - 33 miles Exciting anchoring, as we watched the bitter end of the anchor rode go overboard! But it had a "keeper" line, fortunately. Hot, so good swimming. Humid evening/night....not much rest
FRI 25 AUG Stay Ekincik Took boat tour to Caunos to see the old city and the hillside tombs. Great dinner at "My Marina" restaurant back in Ekincik.
